Can you change the tempo of preloaded loops like in GarageBand for iOS?

I've used a preloaded loop in GB to create an instrumental (well outside of my standard practice of using FL Studio), and I cannot seem to adjust a loop that is simply too fast to coincide with the rest of the instrumental. In GB for iOS, a simple tap, tap (on a preloaded loop), will open a menu allowing you to access settings, which will open a small window allowing you to adjust Tempo, Pitch, and a few other things of the preloaded loop, but it seems it isn't an option in GB 10.3.1 for iMac.

Any help would be nice, it's just frustrating for the loops to be restricted to a Master Tempo because to slow down the Master enough to make the loop play at the appropriate speed causes the rest of the song to slow down, making difficult to listen to. If this is norm for GB on iMac then I will be disappointed because it has great loops unavailable for iOS, but seems to lack some core functions that make it easy to string together loops, whereby sending me back to FL Studio for creation and GB for recording voices (speaking of which, where are all the voice effects that are on iOS as well? I had to import some over iCloud using my iPad Pro to save them.).

Kudos.

Do you mean a loop that came preinstalled in GarageBand? The GarageBand for Mac loops follow automatically the tempo and pitch of the song, if I is a standard loop. Some loops are just one-shot loops (sound effects), that will keep their tempo.

If a preinstalled loop is too fast for the song tempo you set, there is something wrong. Either you picked a one-shot loop or perhaps a wrong time signature, and used loop meant to be used with a ¾ meter signature for a 4/8 project or similar.

You can save a loop that needs slowing down with a different tempo. In a different project with just one single track add the loop, then adjust the tempo of the project, so the loops plays with the speed you want. Then render it as an audio file and save it to the disk.

Import this audio file to a track in the project where you want to use the loop.

You can add this loop as new loop to the Loop Library doing the following:

  • Trim the region with the imported loop to an exact number of measures.
  • Select the region and use the command "File > Add Region to Loop Library"
  • Select the type "Loop", not One-shot.
