iPhone 7 Plus Microphone not working!!

I just recently upgraded my iOS 11.4.1 and all of a sudden my microphone stopped working. When I make calls the speaker button is greyed out. I can't hear the person I'm calling and neither can he. Anyone have the same problem?

I have this exact same issue on my iPhone 7plus, however it works on Bluetooth in the car. I also am unable to use Siri or voice text and sound on videos isn’t recording. Have you found any fix to your problem??

Glad to find this thread. I have the same problem, not just with one iPhone, 3 of 5 iPhone in the family have this!


- speaker grey out when making or receive call

- cannot hear other party

- microphone does not work either, with phone or face time.

- can only make or receive call through bluebooth!


First my son's iPhone 7 had this in July. Took to apple support and they tested it and say yeah it's their problem and

replced the phone.


Then last month, same thing happed to my iPhone 7 and my other son's iPhone 7 plus. took to apple support,

they see the issue but said that they covered it for a while now they think it's not their problem and we are out of luck!

the only way is we pay to have them fixed. How could not be a systematic issue when 3 of the 5 phone have the exact failure and all happen close to each other?


All five phone were bought together through T-Mobile 2 years ago as a family plan. So must be a problem batch.

I have the same problem on my daughter's iPhone 7 which was working fine until the IOS upgrade. All three microphones have stopped working which was confirmed by the Genius bar at my local Apple Store. The Apple in-store consultant said that the IOS upgrade probably updated the firmware which has caused the issue or it's stressed the hardware so much that the microphones have all failed!


There's no way to downgrade so I now have a phone that cannot make calls and a very unhappy 15 year old who is questioning why I ever purchased Apple products in the first place :-(

I think we all have the same issue after upgrading to the latest iOS. The problem is that our remarks, questions and requests on this forum is falling of deaf ears. They keep directing us to the same support page that IS NOT WORKING.
Even though - reading all the related articles state that it was the upgrade that caused the issue. Apple needs to fix this!

Agree, I purchased a premium product from a premium company but this is an inadequate and disappointing response. I'm in the UK and now trying to progress this via Consumer Rights Act 2015 as the handset is less than two years old. From what I understand anyone based in the EU that has this problem can also do the same although you must go back to the place of purchase.

My iPhone 7 Plus came brand new straight out of the box with the regular microphone not working, I have to carry on phone calls with the speaker on, always. No one can hear me, or says I sound like I’m under water. Siri is unable to u derstand me. I am not able to use the Duolingo app portion of repeating the phrase or word into the microphone for accuracy evaluation. I went to different Apple stores about the issue while under warranty, always I was told nothing is wrong with the phone, it’s your service provider. After countless hours with the service provider they determined it was not their service at fault. Which I concurred with.


The end result , I have a very expensive high tech phone that I am unable to speak into and have a private conversation, or conduct my business without everyone in earshot hearing, and have received no satisfactory remedy from Apple. I will never buy another iPhone. I’ve had Sony phones since 1989, and they always worked perfect. That’s where I will go next time.

I have the same issue with my daughters iPhone 7. She took it in to Apple in Europe when we heard that they will repair it for free, but apparently they stopped doing that in July 2018. They requested 340 Euro to replace with same model phone and no warranty!! This is ridiculous, why doesn't apple just own up to there design mistakes. We have been an apple client for the past 12 years, and this is what we get for our loyalty!!!!!.

Okay so my lil cuzins iphone7 is having the same problem where she can’t call ppl an the mic or sound works an the Recording memo when u press it it says no audio devices found But when on YouTube it plays sound just fine???! I have a iPhone 6 regular An dose not have this problem at all an pretty sure I do not have a software update Thanks a lot
