macbook pro retina 15-inch does not boot up all the way

Purchased November 2015 - this year, it did not want to turn on. I left it alone for a while, then when I turned it on, it chimed, Apple logo, then it restarted. Next time, chime, Apple, restart for a few more times.. several times it made it to the login box and twice i was able to enter a password and saw the little loading bar reach almost halfway before it restarted again. Don't have an Apple store and the nearest is two hours away. I'm worried it's not worth the money to fix. I want to know if there is one last shot or if it seems like the hard drive is broken. It wasn't used that often, spare macbook, and never dropped. I have a 2013 macbook that's still going strong. Any advice would be appreciated.

Reinstall Lion To Yosemite Without Erasing the Drive

Be sure to back up before proceeding.

  1. Restart the computer and after the chime hold down the Command and R keys until the Utility Menu appears.
  2. Choose Disk Utility from the Utility Menu and click on the Continue button.
  3. After Disk Utility loads select the indented (usually, Macintosh HD) entry from the side list. Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button.
  4. When the process finishes, quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu.
  5. Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.

Newer models like yours no longer chime at startup. What you must be sure to do is to hold down the keys immediately after pressing the Power button then hold those keys down until the startup begins with the display of the Apple logo. If this too fails then indeed you may have a bad drive. In which case, make an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar for service. If you need to find an Apple Store - Find a Store - Apple. If you did not purchase it from Apple then you will need to look to the vendor for service or How to find your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) or Distributor (AAD).
