Cant keyframe effect applied to compound clip

Hi all.

Still wrapping my head around FCP-X after moving from 7. My problem is this. I've created a compound clip and then applied a vignette effect to it. I can apply keyframes in the clip expansion on the timeline but I cant find any way of adjusting the parameters in the inspector. I've tried adjusting parameters via the drop down list in the expanded compound clip (on the timeline) but the keyframes wont move.

If I apply the vignette to the individual clips in the compound, I get my adjustment parameters... but that defeats the purpose of creating a compound.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
