export Photo slideshow without it becoming an iMovie

Want to export the slideshow on my MacBook Pro to another device--maybe a thumb drive--and keep the slideshow format SO IT CAN LOOP. Any suggestions?

Sharing out a slide show will give you a standalone movie of the slide show. You can drag that slide show movie to an external drive. However, iMovie does not share out movies that loop, even though you can set it to loop in the timeline and loop it there. If you want the shared slide show to loop you must select the Loop setting in the video player app that you are using to play it. For example, if you play the slide show movie on the Quicktime player on your Mac, you can select Loop from the Quicktime menu.
