error code 224002 (this video cannot be played)

When using Safari, video content on my macbook (12") with MacOs Sierra (10.13.6 (17G65)) does not start, but gives the message: 'This video file cannot be played. Error code: 224002)'.

I have tried another user (did not work), re-installed MacOs Sierra (still did not work), but videos play when using another browser (e.g. Firefox).

Who knows how to tackle this issue?

1. Safari > Preferences > Security > Internet Plug-ins

Make sure that “Allow Plug-ins is enabled.

2. Safari > Preferences > Extensions

Uncheck boxes beside all extensions and test.

Enable extensions one by one and test.

To uninstall an extension, select it and click the “Uninstall” button.

Try the Safe Mode.

Safe Mode - About

Safe Mode Startup – El Capitan. also Sierra

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply.
