macOS native VPN

I have just uninstalled ExpressVPN and canceled my ongoing subscription because, after noticing an incredible slowdown on the system, an EtreCheck report showed me some extensions and .plist and terminal commands connected to --boot performed by expressvpnd as potential virus/adware.


I have read in a comment to another question here that, quote, "the only VPN I trust is the native Apple one".


But how do I actually configure it?

vpn is short for virtual private network it's forms a tunnel across the internet making it seem as if the device is locally on another network, so as such a vpn client such as the build in one is nothing without a vpn server to connect to, the vpn server needs to be present on the network the client connects to and appear to be located on

I don't believe the normal version of macOS has a vpn server functionality build in
