I have an ipad air wifi 2013 which worked fine till last april when was asked to upgrade to IOS 11.3 infact WIFI bottom became grey and stopped connecting internet, I went to Apple genius bar ppl they turned me down saying that my old ipad had hardware problems, my wifi antenna was damaged and nothing could be done. But after few weeks I started it up and it was working fine, must probably as ppl here on the community mentioned IOS 11.3 had a bug which was eventually fixed. Then I forgot about this problem .

iOS 11.4 WiFi Problems

Last week was asked to upgrade to IOS 11.4 so I did and suddenly same problem came up wifi button turned grey and no more wifi internet connection. So I went again to Apple genius bar ppl who turned me down again with the same issue, my hardware wifi antenna was broken, again I should throw away my old ipad and buy a new one. I insisted reporting what happened back in april but could not care less. So I start searching how to fix the antenna, found the place where to buy a new one, opened my ipad, i replaced the antenna, put back everything in good order but again my ipad wifi bottom remained grey failing to connect internet.

So today i fixed an appointment and met Apple genius bar again to whom I show the new antenna fixing, so they started saying that now is a motherboard problem. I told them that my ipad worked find till IOS 11.4 upgrding, that it mut be a software bug which should be fixed by them and/or they should downgrade such bad IOS to an earlier version, they reply is that APPLE is not capable to return back with downgrade, that I should change my old ipad and left me without any solution.

Pity to see that such an important company like APPLE has so cheap people who could not care less about problems created by APPLE software, they are only interested to SELL new products disregarding my reason that I do not want to change a fine working machine like my old ipad air wifi 2013 ....

I wonder if at all the so much acclaimed IOS 12 will fix the issue, but in any case I would like to know to whom I should write my solid claim as above ??? thank you for any help you can offer. Best regars, Paolo fm Italy

apple people here in italy insist in saying that my iPad suffer fm antenna and wifi hardware failure disregarding what various web forum point out being a bug with the new IOS 11.4 .

I am quite disappointed of their attitude, they just could not care less of the fact that they have created the problem.

They now announce about a new IOS 12 which will become available fm next october, my self i would have very much preferred that they would offer a temporary replacement iPad till the bug problem is solved ...

Bugs, such as what you are claiming, are generally traced back to the individual device. I am not aware of, nor have I experienced any problems with iOS 11.4.1 on either of my iPads, nor any of the iPhones in our home, and we have 5 of them. If you took your device to the Genius Bar at Apple and they diagnosed a problem with the antenna, then if you do not wish to accept that, it is your prerogative. However, that does not mean it is an incorrect diagnosis. You are free to contact Apple with your concerns, however I would believe they are directed incorrectly. It seems your device has a hardware issue and needs to be replaced.

me too have a recent iPad Air 2 wifi + cell and upgraded to IOS 11.4.1 without problem, the problem I am reporting is with my first iPad Air first issue which I bought back in 2013 which wifi bottom became grey after upgrading IOS 11.3 last april eventually after couple of week i updated IOS 11.3 and wifi bottom worked fine. Already back in April Apple Genius bar people told me that it was an hardware failure of the wifi antenna . Now same situation happened with the 11.4.1 upgrade and same wifi bottom turned grey without any internet connection and same stories and answers fm Apple people . To show Apple people they were wrong i bought a new wifi approved antenna, opened my iPad and substitued the antenna with the new one but still the wifi botton remained grey without any connection. Now Genius bar Apple people say that the problem might be with the wifi chipset in the mother board and turned my claim down.

On the web there are enough claims with same problem after upgrding to IOS 11.4 which make me to believe that such upgrade IOS 11.4 is not yet suitable to old iPad hardware architecture ( see here : iOS 11.4 WiFi Problems
