Macbook pro 2018 battery drain fast

I bought a 13 inch matchbook pro (i7 processor) recently. I noticed that the battery drains really fast. Does anyone else have the same issue?

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, 4 TBT3), iOS 11.4.1

I am having the same issue with mine as well. Would go to sleep with 100%, 9 hours later it will be 70%.

I am trying to determine what is the acceptable battery lost when lid is close.

If anyone have any idea, pls let us know.

Similar issue here; I have a 2017 MacBookPro 13inch connected to two monitors; as soon as I disconnect for a bit of mobility; the computer will shut down in around 10 minutes and will only restart if connected to power. Customer service wants me to make a backup and leave the computer with them for 4 business days. Also, they won't sell me a battery replacement; I guess they know the problem it is not the battery but the whole computer. I also have a MacBookPro I bought in 2013 which works wonderfully. This is not what apple used to be; they should make a huge recall for these machines and offer sound solutions to their customers (not the kind of solutions you read in this thread). Definitely will not buy a MacComputer next time; let's see what other manufacturer's have to offer in terms of reliability and customer service.

Hello fredericocoxjr,

You are right, There is a new release 10.14.3 as you mentioned. I went to the support site https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209149. and there are no details on the updates included in this version.

I also did search on the web and found that 10.14.4 is scheduled soon (no dates mentioned).

So Apple is no forthright in informing the owners of MacBook Pro 2018 when they plan to fix this glaring product defect that is plaguing all of us.

FYI, I updated the OS on my 3 week old MBP-2018-13" to 10.14.3 soon after I purchased it. I'm having the same battery drain everyone is describing. What a disappointment this is to me. I sure hope the next update helps. As I type right now with my MBP sitting on my lap it is pretty warm. Make that hot!. What is causing all that heat? No wonder the battery is draining. It seems to be getting worse with time too. I tell you, this needs some serious attention from Apple. Too many of us are unhappy. We paid a premium price for what we thought was a consistently quality product.

Yesterday installed Mojave update 10.14.4 . still no improvement in battery performance, its actually worse now.

Macbook was closed and in sleep mode, but still depleted the battery by 100% overnight

This has never happened before on any of my previous Macbooks - unacceptable Apple ! ! !

Apple needs to address this issue as a matter of priority or its time dump Macbook and to go back to a MS laptop

3 month old Macbook Pro 13inch Touchbar .

It happened again, closed the laptop in the evening, when switching on next morning "NOTHING" dead battery, completely dead, would not startup, plugged in power supply, (doubtful that it even recognises when its on power) took over 15min before it would startup.

Dealer says bring it in we will evaluate, but we will need it for over 1 week, so now how do i work in the meantime (doh)

Ive been using Macbooks for over 20years, if this issue isnt fixed soon, ill be trashing this one and it'll be my last.

The response from Apple on this issue is nothing short of diabolical, theyre aware of the issue, but are not offering any form of solution whatsoever.

Poorer than p1$$ poor..................

You know; I own an Iphone XS, two MacBook Pros, two mac minis, iwatch, a couple of appletvs, ipad pro, and my kids and wife have iphones and mac book air laptops as well. Now thinking to migrate to Android / Amazon / Google devices since Apple has shown poor customer service. This is not like the old days when Apple was concerned of their customers and would carry out battery replacement programs and phone replacement programs. Some of us can't simply hand our macbook pro to an apple store for four business days and see if they can fix the problem.

I've just bought a brand new MBP 18 13inch, in substitution of my old "early 2015" MBP, and I have the same issue. The ridiculous thing is that the battery of the old MBP is still far better than the new one.

I switched on the machine this morning and, after one an half hour os normal use (Mail, Safari...) battery is already at 45% (!).

I started noticing this issue when I connected the 2 MBP to migrate the data. I started the process with same battery charged at 100% and, after one hour, the old machine battery kept a better charge. Disappointing...

I had the issue on a MacBook Pro bought from Apple in Dec 2017. Having identified the battery drain issue in Dec 2017 just outside of the cooling of period, they continued to deny there was an issue. Asked me to send for repair, passed Apple test but motherboard failed the extensive test and this was changed. (Leads to the question Are we being shipped failed laptops that pass Apples test). The change of motherboard did not resolve the issue. They then asked me to take to an Apple store to do a consumer claim after verification. Laptop was exchanged nearly a year later. Did that resolve the issue? No. They haven’t paid any compensation (goodwill they call it) which hasn’t been forthcoming for my time and effort yet I’m stuck in limbo.

Anyone else with this issue pls respond.

I had similar issue when i bought my MacPro 15" laptop. When I bought the first time, I noticed the drain and called Apple support and complained about the issue and they advised me to get it replace as it was still under warranty. I exchanged the MacPro and got the same model after two weeks of first purchase and the issue still remains. I spent so many hours transferring my data and doing the setup.

I am reading about many users complaining about the battery drain issue. I wounder what percentage of the users are seeing this issue. Even if the percentage of MacPros having these issues is low, Apple should provide a replacement or resolve this issue. I am not hopeful if they will ever fix this issue. It has been five months for me. I don't what are our consumer rights to file this complaint and get some resolution.

Just got a brand new Macbook Pro 2018 15" that had the same issue with battery life lasting for about 3hrs in almost idle mode with no programs used. At first i did the usual resets and reinstalled MacOS but luckily i happened to notice in activity monitor that there was a task called InternetSharing that ate about 79% of the CPU energy.

So i went to System preferences > Sharing and unchecked Internet Sharing and voilá, problem solved. Now at 100%, when unplugged from charger, the time remaining shows for 15hrs.

Just streamed an hour of video from Netflix and it took 5% of battery life.

So in my case unchecking Internet Sharing solved the problem completely.

Hello,

FYI - I have the same laptop (2018 15" MacPro). I checked my Sharings settings and I only have File Sharing and Printer Sharing selected. I do not have Internet Sharing selected and still my MacBook battery drains really fast.

Hence I believe, deselecting internet sharing does not work for everyone. Apple has to find a solution that works for everyone.
