Macbook pro 2018 battery drain fast

I bought a 13 inch matchbook pro (i7 processor) recently. I noticed that the battery drains really fast. Does anyone else have the same issue?

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, 4 TBT3), iOS 11.4.1

I am having the same issue with mine as well. Would go to sleep with 100%, 9 hours later it will be 70%.

I am trying to determine what is the acceptable battery lost when lid is close.

If anyone have any idea, pls let us know.

I too have this same exact issue, system info:

15-inch, 2018

2.2 Ghz Intel Core i7

Radeon Pro 555x 4GB

16GB 2400mhz DDR4

Mojave 10.14.4

My battery and keyboard heat up to what seem like unstable temperatures. I have already disabled bluetooth and all types of sharing on the computer, running in stealth mode and have closed out most programs (only running one app, safari and chrome with only 2 tabs open in each browser - no scripts or ads running to the best of my knowledge). Battery drains 1% every 2 minutes (give or take).

This is unacceptable for Macbook Pro, considering the price tag. Unfortunately this is my first Macbook experience - and I am now quickly regretting my purchase. Just looking at the hardware would seem like everything should be fairly efficient (excluding maybe the graphics card) considering that there are only three applications open on my system, basically idle levels - this makes no sense. This laptop is only used for work and professional career, some development but nothing that should require vast amounts of resources.

Disappointed I guess.. I firmly believe this issue is wide spread, but not enough people are talking about it. As someone else mentioned the battery cycles are burning out way too quickly - at this rate we'll need to replace the laptop in less than 4 years.

I purchased my Macbook pro 2018 in December 2018. At first the battery was quite normal, but the last few weeks my battery power is completely unacceptable! For a model that has an over $2k price tag and advertised as a 10 hour battery life, I can't seem to figure out what the issue is. Currently, the macOSMojave I have installed is 10.14.4. I suspected there would be improvements after installing this but nothing has changed. I can't get through the day with light use without having to plug it in at least once.

What can I do to get Apple support or an update on if they are currently aware/working to resolve this?

Thanks for the input

I too have the same issue. 13” 2018 MBP, 2.3 GHZ QUAD, 8GB RAM, 256gb HD. Battery drains in a couple hours and I don’t even use it. I just leave it on. I have an appointment this Saturday at the Genius Bar. If they can’t resolve the issue I’ll be returning it. This is ridiculous. For these prices this is absolutely unacceptable.

I have the same issue too. I just bought my new map 13 inch 2.7ghz 16gb ram 1TB storage a few days ago and the battery is dying at an alarming rate. it does heat up too when on a pillow but when in-between my legs it doesn't heat up.

I payed over $3k for this computer and the battery is trash.

I had it 100% and put it to sleep over night and when i woke up it was on 90%.

The battery dies so quickly I want to return this computer.

Do a consumer claim. Apple is playing games with their customers. They should be doing a recall on their faulty laptops.

There has been no admission from them that there is anything wrong. I’m on my second brand new exchanged Mac to be faced with the same issue having raised the complaint in Dec 2017. That’s how long they have known about these issues. It’s time someone took up a legal challenge!

its almost definitely related to Safari and the Touch Bar draining battery. Even if your out warranty you should pursue the problem with Apple if you had first raised the issue with them under warranty.

Mine 13" MBook Pro Touchbar

I had serious issues with Battery life charging not charging etc. and it would completely drain the batt when closed in sleep mode.

After 3 months of phone support saying do this, reset that, it was still not resolved so they took it back. They repaired did not replace unit (serial number still the same)

Now its all sorted, I get over 12hr from batt, and it charges when plugged to mains, which it would only do intermittently before.

But they would not tell me what the problem was, only that they changed the Batt and keyboard because they are attached as one component. Although the held the unit for 3 weeks and 2 days.

Is it a 2018 Mojave OS? I returned mine and bought another one. The second one has the same issue. I'm going to return this one and buy a third one but in silver this time instead of gold to see if that makes any difference. I've troubleshot everything else under the sun and nothing resolved it. I spent 5 days with tech support and even wiped and installed an entirely new Mojave OS. No dice.

Partial admission from Apple to the MacBook Pro battery issue.....it could be linked to the keyboard fault below. Apple is willing to repair the below listed models...full report on Sky news.

Apple has admitted that issues affecting MacBook keyboards are caused by a design flaw and not users, and is offering free repairs for certain models. Users can identify their MacBook model by choosing "About This Mac" in the Apple menu.

So why does Apple keep selling these defective products in the first place -- I don't think it's right that people have to send in a brand new product for repairs. That makes no sense. I've gone through weeks of stress over this and I never would have bought the Macbook in the first place had I known about this defect.

May 26, 2019 9:36 AM in response to sk1972

I contacted Apple Chat and they said the keyboard defect is not related to battery drain, and that there is no known battery drain issue with Macbook Air 2018. So the fact that I purchased 2 brand new Macbook Air 2018s with the same battery drain problem, is a fluke, I guess? If I buy a 3rd one and that one drains as well, what would that be called? Why is Apple asking people who purchase brand new products, to get service repairs on them? It makes no sense.

Its July 2019 and this is still an issue with the MBP 2018 13-inch

I bought it in August 2018. Battery was magnificent; however, my laptop would not install Mohave. So, after trying many many times, I took it to Genius Bar in February, and long story short, they had no clue how to fix it and gave me a new MBP.

Now with this new one... well I have the same battery problems everyone in this thread has. Battery is horrible! I am very disappointed. I have an Iphonee Xs max, and that battery is amazing. So is my apple watch. If I knew this would be an issue, I would keep using my 2012 MBP.

I am a college student so getting around to the Apple store was very difficult, so I put up with it, but now I just cannot take it.

I would see if your MacBook Pro qualifies under the sticky keyboard replacement programme that Apple have declared. If so send it for repair. I’m told that this repair programme is required to replace the battery at the same time and also tests for other issues. My replacement MacBook Pro has gone for this repair and they have identified a part for replacement. Hopefully this will resolve battery drain issue for me. I’m still waiting.
