Cant delete draft message in Mail

Have read suggestions to move the draft message to 'junk' and delete. I have tried to send the message so it is no longer a draft - nothing works I still have the same draft message re-appear that will not delete each time I start up Mail.

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, bpbpbp!

I understand you're unable to remove a draft message appearing in Mail. I'd be happy to provide information that may help you resolve this issue.

Start your iMac in safe mode: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

Start up in safe mode

To start up in safe mode:

  1. Start or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key. The Apple logo appears on your display. If you don't see the Apple logo, learn what to do.
  2. Release the Shift key when you see the login window. If your startup disk is encrypted with FileVault, you might be asked to log in twice: once to unlock the startup disk, and again to log in to the Finder.

To leave safe mode, restart your Mac without pressing any keys during startup.

Try to delete this draft while in safe mode.

If you're still unable to delete, please respond to the following:
1. Is this account accessible via webmail?
2. Do you have any other devices where this draft appears?

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Have a great week!

Hi Sara_s1,

First of all I'll answer a couple of your questions:

1. It was within a linked Gmail account and the draft message was on every device (multiple apple and Samsung device) and even came back duplicated and showed in drafts twice.

2. I guessed it was a Gmail issue and contacted them but still was unable to delete the draft even from the Gmail website.

I tried everything from sending it to myself from drafts, deleting, moving to another folder and trying to delete and nothing worked. I even did a disk repair with disk utilities. After a week of this I noticed that the screen window showing the message was sitting there with the normal RED YELLOW AND GREEN buttons on the top corner and I clicked on the RED button to close the window and, I think it may have asked me do I want to delete it (can't recall because it was just a quick spontaneous action) and it seemed to get rid of it - fingers crossed. I wasn't expecting this to work because every time it had gone away previously it just came back again. But it seems to have worked and it has not come back again for a few days now - the only other explanation is that Google has removed it for me without notifying me.

So, I have somehow resolved the issue without having to 'Rebuild' my mail program and not having to do the 'Safe Mode' suggestion. However, I will keep this option in mind for next time if it happens again as it was not something that I had tried and it may have worked.

Thank you for getting back to me - I noticed that a lot of people on the forums are having problems with 'drafts' not being able to be deleted so there seems to be some sort of programming glitch out there.

I appreciate you help.
