Want to keep Mission Control Spaces completely pinned

Hi,

I've unclicked "Automatically rearrange Spaces based on most recent use", but there is still one case in which Spaces are rearranged automatically: when you change a space from full screen to not, or vice-versa. MC always puts the full-screen Spaces last in the order, so if you toggle the full-screen status of a space, the order is changed.

I want to keep the space order the same unless I change it manually.

macOS High Sierra 10.13.6

Thanks,

Rick

Not possible.

Best you can do is not toggle on an off full screen—leave it.

No need to shut down your Mac—close the lid and let it sleep—this preservers your Mission Control arrangement.

It does seem the macOS learns a little bit of your preferences. If you have to shut down, much more efficient to let the macOS handle all open and running apps and quitting them. Let the macOS automatically open these apps backup if you reboot.

It will get ~90% of the full screen apps back to full screen and ~90% of the placement correct . There will always be a few outliers.

You can drag mission control placement to any arrangement you want including new Desktops.

Of the 15 apps I typically have running I keep 8 of those in Full screen all the time — I find it a very efficient work flow. Command Tab is also your friend w/ the HUD (heads up display.)

Thanks. *Sigh*. I wish Apple would stop implementing automatic "features" that they assume people will want, and that turn out to be a pain in the ***. At least give us the option to turn them off.

There are some apps and websites (e.g. Lynda.com and its app) that really require toggling full-screen mode. It would also be nice if you could launch something from a full-screen app, like the Finder, and not have it open in another Space.

Yes, I also find that using full-screen spaces can be very efficient, especially when using the three-finger swipe to switch back and forth.
