How to switch apps using 3D touch: iOS 11.4.1

So I finally made the switch from the discombobulated mess that is Android and am currently using my first iPhone (6S)

My question is how do I use 3D touch to access the app switcher in iOS 11.4.1. I’ve heard it can be done but I’m utterly clueless on how to do it. Thanks!

A Google search turned up this:

How to bring up the fast app switcher on iPhone 6s

Press firmly on the left side of the screen.
Swipe just a little bit to the right and let go to bring up the fast app switcher. (Like double-clicking the Home button.)
Swipe all the way to the right to go back to the previous app.
