Modem Sagemcom 3890 preventing an Airport network?

As I understand my problem it goes like this:

I have a modem (Sagemcom 3890) from my ISP set in bridge mode which is then connected by cable to an (older) Airport Extreme. The Airport Extreme is connected (first by wifi now) by cable to an Airport Express that is supposed to work as an extender and which is also connected by cable to my stereo for wireless music streaming. The Airport Extreme is also connected wirelessly to another Airport Extreme which also works as an extender and which is connected by cable to a printer. All these extenders because I live in a big apartment build by concrete.

This setup used to work ok with another modem (Netgear I think it was) from my ISP. Now it either doesn't work at all or It keeps loosing the signal or connection.

I literally spent 1,5 days of my summer holidays on the phone with my ISP (YouSee in Denmark). They suggested resetting the modem, rebooting the modem, exchanging the modem over and over again but nothing seemed to help.

With the modem in bridge mode and only one Airport Extreme the Apple wifi works perfectly but the extended set up doesn't seem to work at all. My ISP can't help with a solution and doesn't have knowledge on Apple products (they claim).

Is there a known problem with Sagemcom 3890 and an Apple setup as described? Do I need to set up the Airports in any specific way? I have found other people on the internet who describe the same problem but haven't found a solution to the problem.

Cheers Soren

To solve this problem we are going to need to dig deeply into the network functions of the sagemcom and how your airports are setup.

I really hate Sagemcom stuff. But that is another story.

Are you on some fibre connection? If so there can be major issues. Apple did not build the airports with fibre connections in mind.

So I need to understand how you configured everything.

With the modem in bridge mode and only one Airport Extreme the Apple wifi works perfectly but the extended set up doesn't seem to work at all.

Start from here.

Give me a screenshot of the little summary.. when you click the airport.. Then I might need a shot from each page of the Airport Extreme configuration.

NOTE.. you will need to change all the other airports on the network.. when you change main router or modem every part of the network changes.. you need to hard or factory reset every single airport and reconfigure them correctly to the new configuration.. you cannot expect things to work just plugging old network setup devices into new network configuration.

A few more questions..

Thanks for the screenshot..

You have bridged the sagemcom so the airport is your main router. Did you turn off the wireless in the sagemcom.. or make sure it is off so will not interfere. Some modem routers will shut down wireless when bridged and others don't.

You airport extreme is older type.. but I cannot tell how old or which gen.. Is it Gen5 or earlier?

Did you name your clients Pang-virus.exe and Pang2.Virus.exe?? Just don't like names like that.

THere is a good chance the older airport is losing wifi strength.. as they age they seem to get weaker. Gen5 is now over 5 years old and has actually served its time so it will need replacement in the not too distant future regardless.

Try floating your mouse pointer over the top of each client.. you will then be able to see the wireless strength.

As I experience the Airports they kind work against the signal that keeps coming and going.

When you extend wireless in this setup it will certainly cause wireless to have some issues.. but you will need to give us more details now of the other airports and the whole setup.

Are the extenders airport express or extreme.. and what model?

Use the airport utility to give you real numbers for the connection strength.

This shows how it works.. I put the mouse pointer over the connection where it says Unknown and an extra screen pops up with the actual link mode and RSSI and data rate.. that info is crucial to finding the problem.

You put the mouse pointer over the connection area..

Thanks for time LaPastenaque and sry for a late reply.

I'm suddenly not sure if I have made hard resets on the Airports though I think I have. I'll look into that to night or tomorrow.

As I experience the Airports they kind work against the signal that keeps coming and going. Maybe the channels work against each other? A problem I don't have when I only have one Airport attached to the ISP modem.

I don't get the signal via fiber but via coax. Hope it makes sense.

Attached screenshot taken Yesterday with the IP address blurred. Do you need anymore info?
