battery drain while sleeping

Just realized that my Battery drained 7% in 8 Hours while in Sleep Mode. Any Ideas what that might be? Wake on Bluetooth and Lan are Off.

I have solved the issue and posted the solution to another thread. Am just reposting this here in hopes it would help someone else who might otherwise overlook.

--------------

After spending a few days experimenting with different settings and observing... I have finally solved the issue of MBP battery drain!!!! I couldn't believe it, but yes. I charge my MBP to 100%, left it in sleep mode/lid close for over 8hours, came back to it, and its still at 100%. For the past couple of days, it would have gone to 70% to 90%. Now it's still at 100%. So happy.

For those of you who has tried everything, including:

  1. Restarting MPB.
  2. Turning off Power Nap
  3. Updating everything. Is all your app updated?
  4. Run Native App (Choose Safari. Firefox and Chrome kill Battery life)
  5. Check for Runaway Process. Look for any app taking more than 70% of the CPU consistency
  6. Turn off Notification. Limit the apps that can check for notifications. Or use the Do Not Disturb feature.
  7. Turn off Mail's auto check mode or limit it to hourly.
  8. People have also suggesting turning off Spotlight preferences. (select the Privacy tab, and drag your Mac's hard drive to the Privacy list) I never do this, as I find Spotlight helpful. But if you are running low on options, give this a try.
  9. Beware of USB devices. Plugging anything in wakes up a computer communication system that otherwise can snoozed in a low power state. Even external drives with their ow power supplies wake up the system.
  10. Resetting System Management Controller (SMC) https://support.apple.com/en-ie/HT201295

I pretty much done all of the above... the one thing that ended saving my MPB battery, keeping it at a full 100% after 8hours? *drum roll* DropBox running behind the scene while the lid is close!!! For the past couple of days, I know that they have been taking up Energy from getting more details information on energy usage using the Activity Monitor app... but wow! I didn't know the 0.58 Dropbox is using is contributing to a min of 10% battery drain overnight. If you have tried the 10 steps above and still having issue.. find out whats taking up power. Fully charge your MBP before you go to bed, KILL ANYTHING ABOVE 0.2, close your lid. Check your battery level the next day and see if there is any improvement. You can also get more detailed information on energy usage using the Activity Monitor app.

  1. Click Go > Utilities and open the Activity Monitor app.
  2. Now click on the Energy Tab and Energy Impact header to view the apps and processes taking up the most power on your Mac.

Hopefully this help some of you out there. Cheers.

1 Choose Apple menu > Shut Down.

2 After your Mac shuts down, press Shift-Control-Option on the left side of the built-in keyboard, then press the power button at the same time. Hold these keys and the power button for 10 seconds.
