Phone storage VS iCloud storage

Hi,

I've just come back from a holiday, using Filmic Pro to create short but very large 4k video clips (all .mov from 100mb to 1.5gb).

I've had to increase my iCloud storage to the 200gb option as I'd like to keep them backed up without compressing (plus saved hard copies too of course!), but even after updating iCloud, the difference between my 'Photos' option on my phone VS that on iCoud is confusing...68.22gb on the phone VS 47.97gb on iCloud.

I've logged into the desktop site and can defo see some of the vids so it's not the vid format. There are 300+ so havent done a like for like to check if any specifics are missing but there's a discrepancy between totals - 619 vids total on my handset's video album, but only 562 in the videos folder in the desktop site.

Any ideas, before I trawl through them all one by one?

Hello markathorpe,

I understand from your post, there mighe be a discrepancy between the amount of space that videos are taking on your phone versus iCloud.
That's a great question to ask. I am happy to provide you some information.

iCloud Photo Library

If you turn on Optimize Storage, iCloud Photo Library automatically manages the size of your library on your device. Your original photos and videos are stored in iCloud and space-saving versions are kept on your device. Your library is optimized only when you need space, starting with the photos and videos you access least. You can download the original photos and videos over Wi-Fi or cellular when you need them. You can use Optimize Storage on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Best Regards!
