I don't know why Apple closes out their discussion threads. Why force me to start a new one when I wanted to comment on that (not very) older one?

Anyway, A posters there gave a few tips that led me to my fix so I though I'd share for anyone else that might have this problem:

Issue: Clicking the "Outline" checkbox on a basic title resulted in instant close of final cut and complete system crash requiring hard shut down.

Tip: Anti-virus or Cleaner might be the problem. Nope, not for me. I have App Cleaner installed (No antivirus) and contrary to the opinion expressed it has worked beautifully for me. Much cleaner and complete uninstalls instead of leaving behind orphan files and prefs as before.

Tip: Font problems. Nope, wasn't fonts.

Tip: Recent plugin causing the problem. YES. This was my issue. I recently installed the frame.io plugin for Final Cut Pro. It actually failed and didn't complete the plugin install. I didn't think much of it since nothing else seemed amiss at the time. I have since tried the plugin install again. It was successful and the title outline no longer triggers the crash. All is happy for now.
