Macbook Pro boots up to blank screen but changes when the lid is closed and opened.

My MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10), ME664LL/A 15.4-Inch starts up with a black screen when I press the power button. I hear the Apple chime but there is no Apple logo or progress bar.

However while trouble shooting and researching I found out that if I close the lid of the MacBook for 30 seconds and then open it i get the log in screen asking for my password. When I put in my password the MacBook functions normally.

I also found out that if I press the power button and leave the Macbook open for half an hour or so and then press the space bar I get the log in window asking for my password.

Just to say the macbook will boot up normally sometimes.
