Photos stuck in Import

I imported photos from a Nikon D3400 while in a hotel on limited WiFi bandwidth. Several hundred photos stayed in the "Import" section and did not upload to iCloud or move to the "Photos" section.

How do I get them to move to "Photos" and upload to the cloud.

One hint - the upload stopped when I disconnected the camera to save its batteries, even though the Import session had already concluded.

iMac, macOS High Sierra (10.13.3), 16 GB

The pictures are supposed to stay in Imports, but they should also appear in Photos more or less immediately. That's a separate issue from being uploaded to iCloud Photo Library. Are you sure the photos had actually completed importing before you disconnected the camera?

Try this: In the Imports view, right-click (or control-click or two-finger click) and select "Show in Moment" in the context menu. Does that take you to a Moment in Photos view?

As for the part about uploading to iCloud Photo Library, what does the status at the bottom of the Moments view say?

How are your Photos Preferences set? Did you by any chance disable the option "Photos > Preferences > general > Importing. Copy items to the Photos Library"?

if you did that, you must not disconnect the camera until you consolidated the photos into your library.

Are you really talking about the "Imports" album in the sidebar of Photos in the Library section? Or rather about the "Importing" panel when you connect a device in the Devices section of the sidebar? It is suspicious, that the "Imports" vanished, when you disconnected the camera. Photos may still have been preparing the list of photos to review for importing and not been showing you the Import result in the Imports album. Then the import did not have yet have started.

I am using the card reader built into my iMac to save power in the camera when importing. It is less trouble than connecting the camera to a power supply for lengthy imports.
