iPhone X: cracked screen Apple upgrade with Asurion

I have an iPhone X with the Apple upgrade program. The program includes AppleCare +. I cracked the screen today and discovered that I have the phone covered by both AppleCare and Asurion.

The nearest Apple store is more than 100 miles away and I’m considering just paying the $199 Asurion deductible vs trying to schedule an appointment and drive all the way to an Apple store.

If I have the phone replaced through Asurion, will that effect my ability to upgrade my phone through the Apple Upgrade Program?

I spent about 30 minutes on the phone with Apple support and was transferred to a senior apple advisor. The advisor informed me that even though I intend to upgrade the phone soon using the Apple Upgrade Program that I was okay to utilize Asurion to handle my device replacement. He told me that Asurion would log the device they are providing me as a replacement and when the time comes that I perform the device upgrade that there would be no problem upgrading from my replaced iPhone X to whatever the next device will be.

Thank you FoxFifth for trying to help :-)

P.S. On an additional note: AppleCare+ could also handle my request for $129 for express replacement; however, they would also need to put a $1,100 hold on my credit card until they received and examined my current device. Asurion just charges a flat $199 dollars, so at the end of the day Asurion seems like the better deal for my circumstances. Thank you to Apple Support for the help.

You may also want to consider other options with AppleCare+, such as mail-in or a local Authorized Service Provider if there is one in your area. See the following (from AppleCare+ - iPhone - Apple )

  • Mail-in repair4: Mail in your iPhone using a prepaid shipping box provided by Apple
  • Carry-in repair4: Take your iPhone to an Apple Store or other Apple Authorized Service Provider
  • Express Replacement Service4
