Why Won’t Disk Utility Resize My Hard Drive? (An internal error has occurred and the disk for one of the specified operations could not be found. This may be a temporary issue, try again.)

A couple of months ago, I made a partition for Boot camp (I was going to install Windows 8). However I removed the partition. I wasn't going to use Windows because I was having problems with it. I removed the partition, however, the storage that was used for Windows is not available even though the partition isn't there. I tried to resize the main Hard Drive, but every time I try to do it, this message shows saying "An internal error has occurred and the disk for one of the specified operations could not be found. This may be a temporary issue, try again.

Operation failed…”. I really need to know how to fix this because I am running out of storage space and I need the extra space. I’ll leave a screenshots including hard drive info, and the steps I took to resize the hard drive. Hopefully someone can help me soon.

You must first create a Volume on the Disk. Volumes can be partitioned. The sum of the partitions cannot exceed the physical size of the space being partitioned.

Your machine is from 2010. To begin you will need the Snow Leopard DVD that came with your computer when it was new.

Snow Leopard Erase and Install

If possible be sure to back up your files.

  1. Insert Snow Leopard DVD into the optical drive and restart the computer.
  2. Immediately upon hearing the chime hold down the C key.
  3. Release the key when the Apple logo appears and wait for the loading to finish.
  4. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities' menu. After Disk Utility loads select the out-dented disk entry from the side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive size.) Click on the Partition tab in the Disk Utility’s right window. Set the number of partitions to one (1) from the drop down menu. Click on the Options button and select GUID, click OK button, set the format type to MacOS Extended, Journaled. Finally, click on the Apply button.
  5. After formatting has finished quit Disk Utility. Continue with the OS X installation and follow the directions.
  6. When the installation has finished the computer will restart into the Setup Assistant. After you complete the Setup Assistant you will be running a fresh installation of Snow Leopard. Open Software Update and install the recommended updates.
  7. If you are planning to sell or give your computer away, then do the following: After you reformat your hard drive and reinstall Snow Leopard, the computer restarts to a Welcome screen. To leave the Mac in an OOTB (Out Of The Box) state, don't continue with the setup. Instead, press Command and Q keys to shut down the computer. The Setup Assistant will guide the new owner through the setup process after he/she turns on the computer.
  8. Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. if needed. It is not needed if you are selling or giving away the computer.

Did you look at the pictures I attached? I showed that I attempted to RESIZE the disk. Is that where I went wrong? I understand that I should have used BCA but I don’t remember if I did or not. Can you look over the steps and attachments I left again? I’m on macOS High Sierra (10.13.6). I DO NOT have the original Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8). I am not selling this computer or giving it away. This is also my first Mac computer in general so I’m still not COMPLETELY educated on everything. I know most about it but not everything. I will create a volume like you said.
