Sync iPhone calendar with iMac - no iCloud

I would like to be able to sync my contacts and calendar from my iPhone 7 to my iMac (High Sierra) and not use iCloud. Plenty of information on net how to do it with iTunes but none of it seems to work. Can anyone tell me if this is possible and how to do it ? Thanks.

Hallo Craig2244! You just need to turn off Calendar and Contacts iCloud syncing. On your iMac go to System Preferences > iCloud and uncheck Calendar and Contacts. On your iPhone go to Settings > "Your Name" > iCloud and uncheck Calendar and Contacts. I would suggest then re-booting both devices!

In future just connect your iPhone to your Mac, and in iTunes go to Info and select what you want to be synced in Calendar, select Contacts and then click on the "Synchronize" button at the bottom right. This now syncs your Calendars and Contacts without using iCloud. I hope I've been clear here! Hope this helps you! Regards, Ian.

Hi Craig2244! Anything you add or delete on your iPhone Calendar will be "mirrored" on your Mac Calendar once you've connected your phone to iTunes and have pressed the "Synchronize" button. The same goes for any changes made on your Mac´s Calendar...these will be "mirrored"on your phone. It might be a good idea to try all this out with some new entries in Calendar before you regularly sync your devices! I used to do it this way before I started using iCloud, which is much easier imho. But then, not everyone wants to use iCloud. Hope this helps you! Regards, Ian.

Hi,

Thank you for getting in touch. I have seen your link before and tried and failed to get it to work. Either I am doing something wrong or I am right and it does not work. This is what happens. The link tells me to attach my phone and click on the phone device when iTunes opens. Then go to 'info' and click on it and select which items I want to sync. This opens two large boxes which refer to contacts and calendars. Both say the same thing so this is what calendars says (bearing in mind I am trying to avoid using the Cloud) "Your calendars are being synced with your iPhone over the air from iCloud. Over-the-air settings can be changed on your iPhone". So, there is nowhere here to tell my iPhone and iMac to sync calendars and don't go near the iCloud. I have opened Settings on my phone, selected General and found 'iTunes WiFi sync'. This must surely be it ! Selecting this pulls up a message in typical Apple non-helpful fashion which says "To enable WiFi syncing with iTunes, connect to iTunes on your computer using a cable and click "Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi". GREAT ! but where. Just going round in circles.

Hello Ian,

Thanks for your advice and I am pleased to say that it has worked. I had done what you suggested on my Mac but the changes I had made on my phone were not the right ones. I do not think I would ever have found the right ones so thanks again for pointing me in the right direction. The only thing that puzzles me now is whether the computer will always copy the calendar on my iPhone ? For example, if I were to add an entry to the calendar on my Mac will a subsequent sync look at just one device or in effect marry what is on both devices together so that they mirror each other ? Do you happen to know of a document that describes how syncing between devices works ?
