Agree +"6d" works well and is less ambiguous in the Numbers environment. It's easy to get the placement of the "" wrong, though. Also keep in mind that +"6d" doesn't work in Excel, whereas +6 does.

To add days you can just do =G2+6.
You don't have to do =G2+"6d" unless you want to.

I suggest entering dates only in formats show in the cell formatter for dates.
Assuming you enter a valid date (that is... it's in the correct format) then you can simply add 6 days using the formula:
=G2+"6d"
the cell formatter is available by selecting the cell(s), then clicking the segment "Format" at the top-right:

I agree that this is a true statement. I also know that the method I presented is less ambiguous and, in my opinion, better because it tells you that the "+6" is days not minutes hours seconds, or some other unit of time. It is my preference. If it were "coding style" I would say for the few extra characters it is clearer (to me)
