trouble opening AVCHD

HI,

I'm not very tech savvy but I found an old SD card and I wanted to see what I had on it. Tried to open it (AVCHD) and it tries to open with quick time but I get an 'operation could not be completed' error. I don't use or have any programs like Perisian I think its called to open such files... please help. FYI I already looked at my system prefs for any random software but I have nothing.

Thanks in advance,

Paula

If you see a QuickTime file in the AVCHD archive, then possibly it is actually a ‘package’ folder, acting as a file. You may open such packages by control-clicking (or right-clicking), then Show Package Contents. This will reveal another folder structure inside it, including a STREAM folder with .MTS files. That are the video files to play, with e.g. VLC or IINA.
