To "drag and drop" content into the iPod is done by switching your settings to "Manually manage music and videos".

You can't drag files to your iPod when you're syncing; this method is only if you are doing things "manually".

After you've switched your settings to "manually manage", you should be able to go to the "Library", and drag files from the library areas to your iPod (in the source list), using your main selection mouse button (usually is the left button) to select the file, and drag them.

It would have been better to put this in as a new post rather than tagging on to a long post that really is not related to your problem.

If your iPod doesn't show up on iTunes then it isn't going to be able to transfer music. Make sure you are using a rear port on your computer and disconnect anything else from the USB chain other than your keyboard and mouse.

Can Windows see your iPod? Check in Device Manager. Please read and complete the steps in the following: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136

Even if there are not new drivers available, follow the steps to reload your USB drivers.

Hi Roquediego!

When you are manually managing your iPod, you will need to eject it from your computer each time you are done with drag-and-dropping songs to it through iTunes.

If you don't eject your iPod from your computer before disconnecting it when manually managing it, sometimes the songs are not sucessfully transferred to the iPod.

To eject an iPod, you can click on the little arrow next to your iPod's name in the iTunes Source List (the Source List is the left panel of iTunes).

Or, you can eject your iPod by some other means, like through the Safely Remove Hardware program. You can find that in amongst the System Tray icons, which are at the bottom-right corner of your screen, when your iPod is connected to your computer.

For more information on safely disconnecting an iPod from your computer, see this article about it:

Safely Disconnect iPod

Hi Tiana87!

Are you sure that your syncing settings have been properly set up?

1 - Connect your iPod to your computer.

2 - In iTunes, click on your iPod's name in the Source List (the Source List is the left panel in iTunes).

3 - Here, you will see a "Summary" page, as well as a few other tabs on the top. Click on the "Music" tab.

4 - You will see an option to "Sync" or not.

If you have set up your iPod to sync with iTunes, make sure that the song is check-marked in iTunes (if that's hat you've selected as a syncing option for your iPod).

Or, if you are syncing a playlist(s) to your iPod, make sure that the songs are properly in that playlist.

These five iPod troubleshooting steps might help you:

The Five R's

If those possibilities don't seem to be the case, and you've gone through all five steps, you might want to try assigning your iPod a different drive letter.

Follow the instructions on that here:

Hi Korntown!

First, try disconnecting your iPod from your computer, then plug it in again.

Does this happen with only a particular song that you try to transfer to your iPod, or does it happen with any of the purchased music?

If the disconnecting/reconnecting doesn't do anything, I would suggest that you try restoring your iPod.

For instructions on restoring, see this article:

Restoring your iPod to factory settings

Also, try all of these iPod troubleshooting steps, too:

The Five R's

Another thing: is your computer authorized? From the "Store" menu in iTunes, click on "Authorize computer" to authorize your computer.

For more details on authorization/deauthorization, see this article:

About iTunes Store authorization and deauthorization

Hi Mike!

Are these songs that your iPod is skipping over the ones that you've purchased from the iTunes Store, or is iTS-purchased content AND imported content that is skipping?

If it's just iTunes Store purchases that seem to be skipping, see if this article helps with your issue:

iPod doesn't play purchased content from the iTunes Store

If it is also imported CDs that are skipping on your iPod, then I would suggest that you try restoring your iPod (make sure all of your content is backed up beforehand).

For instructions and info on restoring, see this article:

I'm having this issue as well. Some of the songs are ones I ripped from already purchased CD's... but some of the songs that won't download onto my ipod from my itunes are ones that I bought through itunes! These issues came to light when I had to completely uninstall both itunes and quicktime to update them correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rebooting your computer should not cause the problem of not being able to transfer your ITunes/ CD music to your IPOD.

Do a manual Reset on IPOD--by selecting
Menu and Center simultaneously, for about 6 seconds.
You may have to do this several times, then re-try IPOD , ITunes music or CD song transfer!!
Then see if this makes a difference> you need to verify if the problem is with your Windows,Computer operation, ITunes, IPOD; etc. first

Hello again. Well with windows you need to open up File Explorer. Then click on "Tools", scroll down to "Folder Options". Then click on "View" and scroll down (if needed) and take the checkmark out of "Hide extensions of known file types". Click "Apply", then click "Ok". After this you will be able to see the extension name of all the files on your hard drive, well except for your system files. The mp4 part will be on the tale end of the filename. Example: Judy.mp4
Hope this helps ya.

That sort of worked. My problem occured when I had to move all of my music off of my laptop onto my desktop. First it seemed to have "lost" half my music files and then it seemed to think that my iPod was looking for a "different library". The files were actually there but I had to go through each "lost" file and tell the iTunes where to find it which was a HUGE pain in the rear. Anyway once I switched to manual mode for syncing it seemed to alert me to the fact that it was looking for this other library and allowed me to override it. Does anyone know why it "lost" some of my music??
