Is the iPad Pro considered a computer?

My IMAC is was built in 2010, in which it will not get the next OS.

I'm debating between an iPad Pro or another iMac.

I don't spend very much time on the IMAC. Maybe 5 times a month.

Will I get the same affect as a desk top if I get a iPad Pro?

How do I save files on the iPad Pro? i.e. Word/Excel documents

iPads/iPad Pros are more simplified computers.

And iPads and iOS is a whole different experience to work in than OS X/macOS.

iOS is an app-centric OS with very limited multitasking

There is no native external mouse or trackpad support in iOS, either.

Your only input devices are Bluetooth keyboards, your finger/s or an Apple Pencil ( or other third party Bluetooth stylus )

TurboTax is available for iOS. Have noooo clue how good it is, or not, on iOS.

You will need a separate comprehensive PDF app that will let you print to an Airprint compatible printer for creating and printing PDFs

If you work with spreadsheets, currently Apple’s Numbers app has issues with tapping and navigating cells using the Apple Pencil. Do not know if this bug, oversight has been fixed in the current iOS 11 version of not.

You will need to purchase special wireless mobile drives compatible with iDevices and iOS.

There are a few special storage devices for mobile devices. There are portable, bulit-in WiFi hotspot hard drives for mobile devices made by Western Digital and Seagate.

There are special mobile lightning connected and built in WiFi Hot spot, USB flash drives made by SanDisk (now owned by Western Digital)

This listing maybe incomplete and somewhat outdated, now. So do an online search for similar external data storage devices for iPads

Kingston Electronics makes some data storage devices for iPads/iDevices, now, too!

Good Luck!

During Tax season do taxes fore myself and clients on the IMAC. I save them in the turbotax and also create a PDF file.

Can do turbo Tax on the iPad Pro and Save Files?

Can I do Business work on the iPad Pro?

Can I send files to my wireless external hard drive.

1. Yes, but not with the full featured desktop version if TurboTax. Most complex applications offer simplified versions of their apps for tablets. TurboTax for iOS is a simplified app, and I don’t believe is suitable for multiple filings (I have never used it as I use TurboTax for OS X).

2. Some yes. But again, many things offered are not the equivalent of their OS X or Windows counterparts.

3. External hardware storage support is very limited with an iOS device.

An ipad is is a great complement to a laptop or desktop, but it is not a replacement, IMO.
