You can only do so for a group imessage - all participants are using Apple device, can't do it for group MMS - mix Apple and Non apple device.
Your options is to hide the alerts or ask the sender to create a new MMS and omit your from it.;
Send a group message on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

this is NOT a viable option...Please reinstate the "leave this conversation " option, as when overseas this becomes EXPENSIVE>>>especially when the creator doesn't respond...I can quickly rack up $20 or more on my bill before the creator responds or even understands the situation....not good Apple. First, there is no Apple here in these user to user technical forum.
Second Apple does give you the option to "leave this conversation" for a group imessage meaning all user are using Apple devices.
Call or text the creator directly and let them know.
Apple does not have anyone monitor here, that is what their feedback page is for. This is a user to user support forum. Apple cannot address this for group conversations that are mixed device, as indicated earlier. These are MMS handled by the carriers, and Apple does not have any control over that. Since Apple is in control of iMessages, that is why you have the option to opt out of a group iMessage.
While these people may be offended, you have the option to explain the issue regarding your husband and the fact that it can be detrimental to his employment. Unfortunately, the only other option you have is to block these individuals, since it is under carrier control.

I find this incredibly frustrating. I did not ask to be in a group of 10 people only 3 of whom I know! Why can I not opt out? Why should I have to go to 10 separate texts to cancel notification AFTER the fact. It fails to address the issue. That being I don’t want to receive 10 separate from people I do not know in response to a text I did not initiate! My husband feels the same. When he is sitting in court, he is a bailiff, he does not want to receive 10 texts from people he does not know. He does want to keep his notifications on so he can receive text from the person who unwittingly added him to a group text, his sister.
I would hope that Apple has someone monitoring these discussion to find out what is & is not working. And going to the person who created the text is not always a viable solution. Some people could perceive it as criticism & be offended. Others may not be available until way past the point. Apple needs to address this.
Not a good answer at all. Seems to me that it was available before recent updates, so obviously then, it is something for which Apple does have control. You can even still find posts on search engines that show you how to scroll down and opt out of a conversation, but that i]options is no longer available in the new iOS updates. I have thousand invested in Apple products and even my new computer has glitches that seem to be unfixable...Not a happy camper with Apple right now.
Let me word this differently. Last year, during my Christmas cruise, my daughter sent an MMS to say Merry Christmas, and it was NOT an iMessage. Since I was on a cruise ship, as everyone started responding this quickly started to become an expensive Christmas wish. I OPTED OUT...so like I said, the option was there before...it is not there now. Not acceptable.

I'm sorry if you feel it is not a good answer, but it is the correct answer. You only have the option to leave a conversation if it is an iMessage, with just iOS devices. You are free to leave feedback to Apple here, https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
