Pdfs close when scrolling on MacBook Pro

On my almost four-year-old MacBook Pro running macOS High Sierra v10.13.6, pdfs will:

not scroll either with the arrow or touchpad; or

open a blank page window.

This is not corrected by closing and reopening the pdf.

I have re-installed Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Thank you.

Hello Boilers2,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

I understand from your post that when opening a PDF you are presented with blank page and cannot scroll with the arrows or touchpad. In a situation like this I recommend testing the issue while in safe mode and a new user account. This will help isolate the cause of the issue. The following articles will provide you with the necessary steps to use safe mode and how to create a test account:

Best Regards.
