Can’t Take Pictures with Volume Buttons - iPhone 7 Plus

For the past two weeks, whether it be Snapchat or the normal camera, neither the volume up or down buttons allow me to take a video or picture. All it does is raise/lower the ringer or volume. Please help. This is primarily how I take photos. Thanks.

Hello Andrew,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I understand that you are no longer able to take photos using the volume buttons. I would start with a basic restart of the iPhone. Restarting will resolve many issues, so worth trying before more involved steps. This article will walk you through it if you need a reminder: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Next, try force quitting the Camera app: How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If these steps do not work, let us know and we can see what else we might look at.

Best regards.

Andrew,

Do the volume buttons work to change the sound volume on your iPhone? If not, see the "What to do if a button or switch isn't working" in this article: About the buttons and switches on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the volume buttons work for other uses and just not in taking a picture, then the next step would be to restore the iPhone. Take a look at this support article for how to do that:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

Cheers.
