After installing HomePod, iTunes region confused

After installing HomePod with my iPhone both have somehow switched stores to Japanese content (i currently live in Japan). I have a subscription to Apple Music and iTunes Match (and everything else) at the Canadian iTunes store. The iPhone is stuck in the Japanese iTunes Store, and so is HomePod. All other devices associated with this apple ID and sharing seem to be working. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

See Change settings for HomePod - Apple Support. Sign out of the iTunes Store on your HomePod.

See Change your Apple ID country or region - Apple Support. Change your iTunes region for the iTunes Store on your iPhone. Note you may not be able to change region with an active subscription to Apple Music or iTunes Match, even if you are trying to change to the store where your account is held. If this happens try searching on the web for something in the Canadian iTunes Store and then open the link in iTunes. This should switch you to the correct store without checking (which is how people can get stuck on the wrong store in the first place).

Sign back into the iTunes Store on your HomePod.
