Apps folder in Mac is gone from launchpad

The folder only has browser extensions. There's no rocket ship in launch-whatever that does. What's going on? The system wanted to restart after an update but I said no, unsure what's in the update.

This is an update-I loaded the Apps store on-line. It went through a 45min update but the Apps icon stil missing and there are no apps in the folder except for Chrome and Safari ext's.

This *****.

You can force the Dock to rebuild the Launchpad databases by removing manually.

The database is in your User Library, from the Finder>Go>Go To Folder copy and paste:

~/Library/Application Support/Dock

Remove the file i (drag it to your Desktop or Trash) n there should have a long string of alphanumeric characters as file name.

Log out and log back in to your account, which will make the Dock and Launchpad reset and scan the Applications folders to repopulate Launchpad.

I can't make that description fit anything in the OS.

What is this "main menu" you describe?

In the OS, there is a Menu Bar at the top of the screen.

The left item is an Apple, and the next item is a menu titled with the name of the app that is open. The remaining menu items are set by the app.

At the bottom of the screen (default location) is the Dock. It holds Applications for quick access on the left, and files/folders on the right.

If you open a window in Finder, the title of the window will be the folder it is displaying.

On the left side of the window is the Sidebar. It holds shortcuts to folders, devices, shares, and Tags.

Using those terms and descriptions, where is the "main menu"

Do you mean you see your user name in the title bar of the Finder window? If so, you are looking at your Home folder.

If you opened an Applications folder in that window, you opened your local user Applications folder which normally doesn't exist and would have to have been created by you or an App you installed. Perhaps Chrome since it is in there.

Type cmd-shift-A or select Applications from the Sidebar. That will open the main "all user" Applications folder. It is located at the root level of the hard drive.

The Dock at the bottom of the screen should have a default set of applications, including the LaunchPad app. It is possible the Dock has gotten corrupted and reverted to a default state or some random state.

Ok—

Open Finder by clicking on your Desktop or opening a Finder window like your Home folder.

Along the top menu on the upper left menu bar you see Finder. As you progress to the right of the screen you see the Go drop down menu. Open that menu you have the option Go To Folder. Click this option—a dialog box opens up.

Copy and paste the file path above it will open the Dock folder.

The original launchpad icon is located - when you open finder - applications .

User uploaded file

And if you open a launchpad and find some folder and inside it is a launch pad thats strange .

Open the folder and click on get info , just right click on the folder and try to delete , or press forcefully over the folder for few min until it starts shaking if there is cross sign over it , click on it and try to delete .

See this article macOS Sierra: Delete files and folders

If an item is locked, you need to confirm you want to move it to the Trash, or unlock the item before putting it in the Trash. To unlock the item first, select it, choose File > Get Info (or press Command-I), then deselect the Locked checkbox. If you are not logged in as an administrator, you may need to click the lock icon User uploaded file, then enter an administrator name and password.

More advanced method to delete this folders will be open new finder window , select this Mac in the spotlight search enter the name of the app and delete it .

User uploaded file

then ,by entering in system library and user library there are some folders where app residues are deleted into the trash , restart the Mac and empty the trash .

Note : there is always a single launchpad in applications even you try to delete it system integrity protection that is always enabled will stop deleting the original app .

How does making all my apps disappear from my folder or invisible in my folder improve my experience? Why is the apps launcher such a big deal if it's got these kind of problems; why doesn't Apple just get rid of it? I've got tons of apps / programs loaded on here and now I can't start up a single one of them.

If I go into finder the main menu is my username and under that there's an application folder. Within that applications folder the only thing that displays are Chrome extensions and Safari extensions nothing else. If there are any other files in there they are invisible. So we have to assume that somehow my files are made invisible.

Yes the icon that's the rocket ship is I guess the LaunchPad. I don't think I've ever had that icon in my launchPad. I've had an app's icon in my launchpad and within that apps listing was the Launchpad icon. If I clicked on it it it would take me into a different area, allowing me to Launch applications.

Sorry, I meant favorites menu. It's the first thing that comes up when I hit finder: the side menu/sidebar is actually the favorites menu which is on the far left hand side under finder. If I click on my username then it will pull up an applications folder which is the folder that's empty except for extensions. I just tried to move my applications folder to my favorites and it disappeared.

Is there a way to insert or create a Launchpad icon. The icons that I have in my Launchpad at the bottom or multiple browsers, iTunes, bluetooth, word processing, dashboard and settings.

You have a bunch of problems that are not common.

You seem to assume some change in the OS has caused this--it didn't.

I can't speak to any particular issues of LaunchPad as it is a stupid paradigm brought over from iOS that serves no purpose on a Mac. Just open your Applications folder and launch your apps from there (if they aren't already in the Dock). Or, better, cmd-space and type a few letters of the name into Spotlight and it will find it for you.

I can only guess at what you are describing. This article may help you describe your problem so we can understand: Get to know the Finder on your Mac - Apple Support

There's no rocket ship in launch-whatever

Do you mean there is no LaunchPad icon in the Dock? macOS Sierra: Use the Dock

You can drag applications into the Dock from the Applications folder.

The system wanted to restart after an update but I said no, unsure what's in the update.

If the update has already happened, stopping the restart isn't going to do anything to stop the update from happening, but it would probably make things awfully weird. However, the OS normally restarts to install the update.

Which apps are missing and from where?

What folder are you talking about?

I don't know why any folder would contain Chrome and Safari Extensions. Again, you need to expound upon the details a bit more.
