Outlook - I do not want to select entire word

Where do i fix so that when I write an email I only want to select exactly the letters I mark, not have it expanded to more than that area. If I write eg "frog" then I can select the o in the middle. But when I write "the frog drinks" then if I try to select from half frog to half drink ie "...og dr..." then the selection expands to "frog drinks". This is a setting called something like "Do not mark entire word" in other programs, but in this mac outlook it is one of several things i cannot find the setting for and deselect. I have MacOS HighSirerra version 10.13.6 and use Microsoft Outlook for Mac version 16.16
