Green line of death and repair

My iPhone X screen shows a vertical green line on the right side of the screen. I googled and it's called the green line of death.

I went to Apple store on last Saturday and the technician said it was a result of me dropping my phone from the dent on the bottom of the phone. I didn't recall dropping my phone for the past 8 months. I did drop it within 2 weeks when I first purchased the iPhone X in Nov last year but I kid you not, I was walking to cross the road and was hit by the coming vehicle. I had police report etc documentation.

I imagine the green line of death appearing now was 8 months too late. Anyway, Apple quoted me $400 for the repair or to live with the line. If I had gone with the former, I could get my phone repaired and collected within 2 hours. I did not buy Apple care so I guess I have to live with the line.

I bought so many of Apple products such as phones, Apple TV, watch etc. As a loyal supporter, I really begin to wonder if Apple is just fleecing us by making money off repairs, Apple care etc. What is customer care...??? $400... for a small repair... Even an specialist doctor doesn't charge that much for seeing him or her. Really upset!

Apple doesn't do small repairs and a small repair would not fix your issue anyway. The damage on your iPhone the has now resulted in the line on your screen (it will get worse) was caused when you were hit by the car and dropped your iPhone. You should contact the person who hit you and have them pay to repair your iPhone.

The $400 charge is to completely replace your iPhone with a service replacement unit, not to repair it.
