MacBook Pro Black Screen, No backlight, No keyboard light

I have an early 2011 15” MacBook Pro with latest version of OSX. I was on the windows partition playing video games for a few hours. Everything was fine until I restarted to OSX. The loading screen took 5 minutes to get near the end of the bar until the screen turned black. I did a hard shutdown and tried again.

There is the chime at start up. The battery charger light is on and the computer power light at the bottom of the case is on. However, the keyboard and Apple logo backlight are not lit up. The screen remains black. I do not see the loading screen when I shine light at the Apple logo.

I tried entering safe mode, pressing the command option p r keys, disconnecting the battery to reset the power management, and removing and reinstalling the ram. Nothing works.

I have:

- an aftermarket battery of ~ 1 year old

- OEM factory upgraded 8gb ram ~ 2-3 years old

- Samsung SSD ~ 3-4 years old

- had display/GPU recall done for a similar problem ~ 2-3 years ago

Is there any solutions to this problem? And if so, how much are the repairs? Did something burn up from the video game usage?

Thanks for the help!

Unfortunately I did try that. I let it sit overnight and tried again. Still nothing. The display brightness and keyboard backlight brightness keys are unresponsive. And the light for caps lock does not turn on when I press it.

I need to find a way to test with an external display/tv. I’m visiting friends for a week or two and don’t have my external monitor or cables for it. I’m currently calling Apple to see if there are available appointments today.

I bought Lightning-to-HDMI cables from Target. I’m not getting any video signal when I boot the computer. I plugged in my brother’s RGB gaming mouse and keyboard to the laptop and it appears the usb connection isn’t getting any power.

I called Apple to make an appointment. Earliest they had was Sunday. But they said they won’t be able to touch it since I have an aftermarket battery. So good job Apple for that. I agree if the computer was still under warranty, but it’s a 7 year old laptop without warranty... time to call ubreak stores for a free diagnostic.
