Can I use a flash drive as a boot device

Hello!

I know this thing Is old but i Have a Xserve Late 2006 On OS X 10.5 and was plaining on erasing all the drives, put them in RAID 5, and use a Flash drive as a fast booting solution. the question is

Do I use the OS flash drive in the RAID or separate from it.

Thank you!

You certainly do not want to add a flash drive to a RAID array.

Since the flash drive will be connected via USB 2, it will be extremely slow.
