How to move all photos and videos from iPhoto to Photos in iCloud

I have upgraded my iCloud storage to 2T and want to move all my pictures and photos currently on iPhotos on my iMac hard drive to Photos in iCloud. How can I accomplish this?

I think we may have a few photos stored in Google Cloud as well, but not sure. I'd like to consolidate all my image and video storage to iCloud.

I've also set up Family.

Additionally, I want to move all music files to iCloud as well.

Presently we have a couple of iPods, two iPhones and an iMac. I want to disconnect all my

iPhoto or Photos? iPhoto can't sync with iCloud.

If you are using OS 10.10.3 or above, open Photos, then go to Photos/Preferences/iCloud and set up syncing. Then go to System Preferences/iCloud, sign in, and check Photos syncing.

Try going to System Preferences/iCloud and stop Photos syncing by unchecking the box. Wait a couple of minutes, then check syncing.

Last resort - have you tried signing out of iCloud and then sign back in?

I've always had great service and product support from the site below. I am using 2 of their external hard drives and so far, have had no problems. They come formatted for Mac use.

Hi, Thanks for checking in.

I am running OS 10.12.6. When I open Photos Preferences/iCloud, I donate find a set up for syncing per se.

This is what I see.

One other thought, I stopped by an Apple reseller called Juicy here in Italy and asked if there was a service to have someone do all this, delete unnecessary duplicates, etc. and they first asked how old my iMac was...a 2011 model...and said it was too old to work on! Five years is the limit for Apple to service their products, even for fee. I'm really shocked by this revelation. He added my iMac won't be able to see my new iPhone, which is coming soon. But I digress...So, syncing?

Thanks.

Greetings, once again, and thanks for your help!

So, at this point, iCloud preferences on Photos is finished updating:

But it only has 279 photos instead of the 10s of thousands in iPhotos.

If I go to Import on Photos, the iPhotos libraries are blocked:

So, I haven't solved the problem of uploading all photos and videos onto iCloud within the Photos library. What might I be missing?

When I go to iCloud and open Photos, I don't see any preferences to open...

...I had written more but is now lost; I’ll restate:

So, thanks again but with school beginning I had to move it to the back burner. Also, the articles mostly addressed when someone upgrades at that moment; unfortunately I upgraded years ago. Now my library of iPhotos is very large. I suspect my next step will be to buy an adequately large external backup hsrdrive—1-2terabites— and safely backup my pictures and videos then try again to move everything to Photos in iCloud. Any suggestions?
