Can I use AppleTV without WIFI

Can you use AppleTV without internet connection. I plan on downloading some movies to bring with us on vacation. Would I need wifi if the movies are already downloaded to my AppleTV box?

The Apple TV officially* doesn’t have provisions to download movies to its internal disk. It is for streaming media.

One could use peer-to-peer AirPlay [1] from an iOS or macOS device. Test before going away.
* VLC on tvOS offers a loophole with “Remote playback”. Test before going away.

If they were iTunes rentals or purchases you would need Wifi even if downloaded on another device, in order for it to authorize
