why is a favorite photo on my iphone not a favorite on my mac after importing to Photos

Hi everyone,

I can't seem to figure this one out myself;

I favorite many photo's on my iphone, wishing to copy that 'favorite flag' to my Photos app, but I can't find out how: After importing all photos from my iphone to the Photos application on MAC, non of these are still heart-flagged as they are on my iphone. I'd have to go through them again on my Mac, and re-favorite them because the favorite status apparently isn't copied. I just don't get it, with the heart button on both iphone and photos app on mac, why would this favorite-flag not just sync naturally? Or what do I do wrong?

Thanks for any help

Mark is right - If you connect the iPhone to a USB port and import directly from the iPhone or by My Photo Stream, only the original photos will be transferred from the iPhone to the Mac, not the favorite tag or the adjustments you applied. You really need iCloud Photo Library, if you want to transfer your editing work and the favorite tag and not just the photos. If you do not want to sign up for iCloud Photo Library, postpone all editing until the photos are on your Mac.

I have a similar problem. I recently upgraded to iOS12 on my iPhone and I am using a MacBook Pro with macOS High Sierra, 10.13.3. prior to this upgrade, I had approximately 50 photos in my Library that I selected the heart to load in my Favorites folder in Photos. A couple of days ago I noticed my Favorites folder on my iPhone was empty. The Favorites folder in Photo on my MacBook still has the photos in it. When I look at Photo settings, there are three choices : 1) automatically upload ALL photos (an unacceptable option, as I have hundreds if not thousands of photos and I do not want to use that much memory in my iPhone), 2) create photo stream (import recent photos, I don't like that either as I want a select few in my iPhone all the time) or 3) iCloud photo sharing (create sharing albums to share with others, I don't want to share my photos with anyone but MYSELF). Why does Apple keep screwing up Photos?? does anyone have ideas on how I can solve this problem?
