How to stop clicking sound & icon now appearing in upper right hand screen corner when using the shift key on macbook pro retina,15-inch, mid 2014, with 2.5 GHz Intel Core17, running 10.13.6 high sierra?

How can I stop a weird clicking sound & icon now appearing in upper right hand screen corner when using the shift key (icon disappears when shift key is released) on my macbook pro retina,15-inch, mid 2014, with 2.5 GHz Intel Core17, running 10.13.6 high sierra?

The icon is a command symbol or an upward arrow and until I recently upgraded to OS 10.13.6 from Yosemite, this strange behavior never occurred.

I would appreciate any help you can give me to resolve this problem.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. You have saved my sanity in this, my first ever community post!

As you suggested, I checked out the features in Accessibility and found that the Sticky Keys feature had been enabled in >Sys Preferences>Accessibility>Keyboard>Accessibility Keyboard.

I have no clue as to how how this happened (must have been in the update) but maybe it was a good thing as you have shown me how to do some troubleshooting in this new (to me) OS.

After deselecting the Sticky Keys box, no more icon and no more clicks.

Thanks again — I really appreciate your help in effecting this simple issue resolution!
