What exactly happens when you click ‘restore’ in itunes when your phone is connected to itunes?

By this I just mean ‘restore’, not restore from backup. I’m fairly sure your phone is erased, but what happens after this? After clicking restore and erasing your phone, does it just prompt you to set it up as new? In which case, can you then restore from an iCloud backup? Thanks

If you click on the Restore iPhone... button your iPhone is first completely erased of all data and media and all of its iOS settings are reset to their factory defaults. You then have the option to restore your phone's data from a previous backup made either to iTunes or iCloud.

Alternately, if you select the Restore Backup... button instead, your phone is not completely erased, but any data you restore from an earlier backup will overwrite any newer data that is currently on the phone.

Yes once you follow the prompts to set up/activate the phone you will be prompted to either set the phone up as new, from your icloud or itunes backup or from an Android. choose which one you want to do.
