Hello IvanMBP,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that you're not able to AirDrop content between your iPhone X and your MacBook Pro. You've come to the right place for help.

Let's start by double checking your AirDrop settings on both the MacBook and iPhone:

Use AirDrop on your Mac - Apple Support

While these steps are for when you can't see a device in AirDrop, it provides some relevant settings to check for. You'll also want to make sure that the MacBook isn't set to "Block all incoming connections" since AirDrop is being refused when trying to connect:

If you can't see the other device in AirDrop

If a device doesn't appear as an AirDrop recipient, make sure that both devices have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on and are within 30 feet (9 meters) of each other. If that doesn't help, check these settings on your Mac or iOS device.

On Mac:

  • Choose Go > AirDrop from the menu bar in the Finder, then make sure that AirDrop is turned on.
  • Check the ”Allow me to be discovered by” setting at the bottom of the AirDrop window. When AirDrop is set to receive content from Contacts Only, both devices must be signed in to iCloud, and the email address or phone number associated with the sender's Apple ID must be in the Contacts app of your Mac.
  • If the Mac is from 2012 or earlier, click “Don't see who you're looking for?” in the AirDrop window or sharing sheet of the sharing Mac. Then click “Search for an Older Mac.”
  • If the receiving Mac is using OS X Mavericks or earlier, make sure that an AirDrop window is open on that Mac: choose Go > AirDrop from the menu bar in the Finder.
  • Make sure that “Block all incoming connections” is turned off in Security & Privacy preferences of the receiving Mac.

On iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:

  • Check the AirDrop setting in Control Center. When AirDrop is set to receive content from Contacts Only, both devices must be signed in to iCloud, and the email address or phone number associated with the sender's Apple ID must be in the Contacts app of your iOS device.
  • Make sure that Personal Hotspot is turned off in Settings > Cellular of the receiving iOS device.

To further isolate potential causes, try sharing a different type of content between the devices as well. For instance, if you're currently trying to AirDrop a file, see if the error occurs when sharing a photo instead.

Cheers!

Hello!

Before iOS 12 i had no problem Airdropping between my iPad Pro and my iPhone 7plus.

Suddenly each device shows the other as a generic iPhone and iPad without my name, opposed to seeing my wife's devices with HerName iPad, HerName iPhone.

When attempting an airdrop between either, both devices show the other as already declined when trying to airdrop a photo. I have no 'files' to try to airdrop, only photos are important. Neither device receives the popup to accept or decline.

I can airdrop and receive on both devices from my wife's iPhone and iPad as well with no problem, as well as my iMAC Pro.

I have signed in and out of iCloud, restarted, forced shutdown, turned WiFi on and off, Bluetooth on and off, checked for Airplane mode, reset my household Wifi, checked for being on same WiFi channel, checked contacts, everyone settings, Do not disturb settings, no personal hotspots on....

Help!

Hi I_rina, thank you for your response.

I checked all the stuff in the link you provided and it didn't help.

On my account, which is linked to the same iCloud account than the iPhone I can send from the iPhone to the MBP, but I can't from MBP to iPhone. I tried image and PDF.

When logged in to MBP with my wife's account I am able to send and receive photo to my iPhone.

Please help 😟

I have read this but I have a question. A warning comes up when you go to signout of iCloud that says “Signing out of your iCloud account will disable Apple Pay and will remove your cards. Photo in iCloud Photos and Photo Stream photos stored in iCloud will be removed from this iPhone.”

When you sign in to iCloud (after signing out to correct the airdrop problem), are your photos and data reloaded onto the phone, iPad, etc.?
