Profile Icon in System Preferences is Missing

MAC has been infected with the weknow.ac browser hijacker. Cannot remove it from Google Chrome. All of the suggested directions point to the "Profiles" icon in system preferences. Mine is missing. Please help.

The Profiles Icon is only shown when your Mac is bound to a Network Account Server, such as an LDAP server.

That setup is sometimes used in schools and large corporations, but is not common otherwise.

Look for it in these folders:

/Library/Internet Plug-ins

~/Library/Internet Plug-ins

... where tilde [~] is an active abbreviation for "current user" that is honored by the file system

if you have difficulty navigating there, copy and paste the strings above into:

Finder > Go menu > Go to Folder

Anything you do not recognize should go into the Trash. You can always re-download it later if it is needed.
