Messages/texts not recieved when iPhone is off/dead

I have an iPhone 7. Messages/texts that are sent to me while the iPhone is turned off, do not come through. A bubble notification with an exclamation mark is visible on the messages app icon, but no messages appear when going into the app. This only happens when the iPhone is turned off or dead. When it is in airplane mode, or has no signal, messages appear once it has signal. Very frustrating as I have missed a couple important texts due to this.

I’m not sure that is normal, I always thought if a device was off the message then remained on Apple’s servers until you started the device again, after which the message got sent, that should be the case with iMessages, not sure with normal text.

If I’m correct (others may comment) then I would try signing out of Messages, restart device and then sign back in again.

Also have a read through this link (it’s quite comprehensive and I haven’t fully read yet) which may give further advice.

Then don't turn off your phone but use this instead Use Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
