the article states that "if prompted, type the 4 digit code shown on you TV screen". What if the code is displayed on my iphone and not on the TV (from the appleTV)? Hard for me to set the code in the menues of appleTV, when I need to set up a remote first to be able to do anything on my AppleTV. Kind of stuck here :-)

It is different for 2nd and 3rd generation Apple TV. You will need to navigate the Apple TV interface to complete the setup for the app. To do so you will need a functional remote.
