Apple Watch-AT&T to Verizon?

I have At&T and would like to order a new watch and give my GPS/Cellular Apple Watch 3 to my sister who has Verizon. Will this work?

Hello ms.wells,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for information about giving your Apple Watch to a family member. Here are two articles to help you.

First, make sure you disable Activation Lock before giving it away. This article will help: About Activation Lock on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Turn off Activation Lock before you send your Apple Watch in for service, sell it, or give it away

Before you send your Apple Watch in for service, sell it, or give it away, you should turn off Activation Lock on your Apple Watch. Just unpair your Apple Watch from your iPhone:

  1. Keep your Apple Watch and iPhone close together.
  2. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and tap the My Watch tab.
  3. Tap your watch name at the top of the screen, then tap User uploaded file.
  4. Tap Unpair Apple Watch. For Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular), tap Remove [Carrier] Plan. If you aren't going to pair with a different Apple Watch or iPhone, you might need to contact your carrier to cancel your cellular subscription.*
  5. Enter your Apple ID password. If you forgot your Apple ID password, you can reset it.
  6. Tap again to confirm.

If you can't access your iPhone or Apple Watch, or if your Apple Watch isn't paired with your iPhone and you need to turn off Activation Lock:

  1. On a computer, go to iCloud.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
  2. Go to Find My iPhone.
  3. Select All Devices, then click your Apple Watch.
  4. Click Erase Apple Watch. Select Next until the device is erased.
  5. Click User uploaded file next to your Apple Watch.

* Carrier fees may apply. Contact your carrier for details.

Then, take a look at this help article: Set up and use cellular on Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) - Apple Support

Changing carriers

Your iPhone and Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) must use the same carrier. If you change carriers on your iPhone,* you need to remove the previous service plan on your Apple Watch and sign up for a new plan. Here's how:

  1. On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app.
  2. Tap the My Watch tab, then tap Cellular.
  3. Your plan should automatically switch. If you need to add a new plan, tap Add a New Plan, then follow the onscreen steps. If your previous plan still appears in the Apple Watch app, you can remove it.

If you need help, contact your carrier.

Thanks and have a wonderful day.
