T-Mobile + AT&T on iPhone Xs? ❤️

I understand that the iPhone Xs will have to be unlocked for it to be used on 2 different carriers. Typically Apple sells unlocked phones about 2-6 months after they sell ‘regular’ iPhones. So once I have one of these new iPhones will it matter which carrier will be on nano-sim card and which one will be using the e-sim card? There’s a mention of ‘main number’ on Apple’s site? Does it mean one account will override the other? I want to use AT&T in Alaska and T-Mobile everywhere else.

(Why? Well, T-Mobile discriminates against those of us who live in Alaska and allows roaming only; if you roam ‘too much’ while in AK they‘ll cancel your account. Happened to a good friend of mine. :-( )

I know it’s early to be asking these questions but I was hoping an Apple spokesperson would clarify. Thanks.

The government cannot sue or otherwise force any cellular company to put in their own native network where they don’t have one. You roam in Alaska because t-mobile has no native network there at all - so T-Mobile customers have to use the roaming partner’s network which is AT&T. But there is no law that requires any carrier to provide native coverage everywhere or anywhere and the government has no basis nor authority to force them to do so.

Every single carrier has some low or no-coverage areas. Alaska just happens to be one where T-Mobile has not built out a network of their own. Sprint also has no native network in Alaska - they roam on a couple of small local state carrier’s networks.

The only two national carrier’s with native networks in Alaska are the USA‘s two largest service providers - Verizon and AT&T. It must be because they are the only two companies large enough to afford the expense of building out their own networks there.

Well then, I would not do business with them under those circumstances. T-Mobile, nor any carrier, is required to offer services and accounts anywhere. They make the business decision of where to do so.

You wouldnt sign up with US Cellular in Alaska either, would you? As they don’t offer native accounts there either. But of course they allow their customers to roam when in the State.

Since you’re using AT&T as well, why not just use them everywhere and not even bother with T-Mobile at all?

Good point but maybe I misspoke. It’s not about a native network or roaming. I understand that sometimes carriers need to roam off of other carriers. What irks me and MANY, MANY OTHERS is the fact Tmobile isn’t available to those of us with a permanent Alaska address . If you come from another state to visit Alaska you can roam with GCI, AT&T and Verizon but for those of us who live in Alaska they won’t let us open an account because they don’t have ‘presence’ in Alaska. So if you open an account in a different state to get around this nonsensical rule you can get away with it for a while, until they send you a certified later telling you your account will be cancelled unless you stop roaming in AK because you’ve gone over their limits. Basically they do not provide service in the state of Alaska except for temporary roaming, i.e.transitioning through the state, etc. A nationwide network should offer services in all 50 states.
