Iphone Xr without carrier

I asked at Apple Contact Store and they told me that "I know how exciting it would be if the iPhone XR is SIM-free. While we wait for any further announcements, the iPhone XR is available through the major carriers." So, for now it will not be available in unlocked version.

This is absolutely not true according to my results and Apple's own website when you purchase an iPhone....it goes a little like this Most of the phones sold on Apple.com are sold unlocked. And only time they are locked is when you purchase a phone on a payment plan with Verizon. I pre-ordered mine on the same day it was first available for cash and never booted the phone with the T-Mobile Sim....I took out and placed my Mint Mobile sim in it and it has been nothing but smooth sailing from then until now...don't know why Apple Support keeps saying that. I actually talked to an Apple Support person and she was confused about this also.

I bought the T-Mobile version but never put the T-Mobile sim in it...works fine on Mint! As long as you pay for your phone in full they all should come unlocked...they are all the same phone just different SIM cards in the box.

This link says we can buy unlocked with a carrier..By paying full $749 we get an unlocked phone.

Thank you! I agree! I found later in the FAQ section here on Apple they said the same thing that most of their devices sold on Apple.com are unlocked except when paying a monthly payment...wonder why the Apple workers don't know that???

One way to unlock iPhone Xr is buying a T-mobile carrier. It is sim-free and can be activated with At&t, Sprint and Verizon after sim-installed. But this method can support only carrier in the US. If need to activate with another countries's carriers. It's not supported.

Another way is buying a Singapore or Thailand model shipping to USA as I do. These phones are carrier-free and can be activated with any carrier in the world.

That’s for sure! Thank God I didn’t buy a T-Mobile XR because I thought for sure it would work but found out even if you pay $800 cash it will be Locked to a carrier you don’t want....I just wish the government would say if a customer pays off their device or pays outright for phone it is illegal for either Apple or the carrier to lock it.

There is no such thing as an unlocked iphone XR. You can only use it on the specific carrier that is why the XR is cheaper. You can't use it on any other carrier except the one it is activated on. Call Apple support and they will tell you the same thing. That is also why when you go to purchase from Apple website it will not have the option to purchase without a carrier and the XS and Max you can.
