Lost ethernet & Ext USB HD conncection

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)

High Sierra 10.13..2

My MBP's fan was unusally loud so I rebooted. After reboot, I no longer have ethernet connection (Wifi does work) and my External USB HD lost connection.

I've reset the PRAM per these instructions:

Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

and reset SMC per these instructions:

How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

using the method, "After your Mac shuts down, press Shift-Control-Option on the left side of the built-in keyboard, then press the power button at the same time. Hold these keys and the power button for 10 seconds."

No Luck.

Good afternoon WildBull,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand you lost your Ethernet connection and connection to an external USB hard drive after rebooting your MacBook Pro because of a loud fan noise.
Based on what you have already tried, I would suggest that you:
1. Shut off your MacBook Pro, and disconnect all peripheral devices, including the external USB hard drive.
2. Recycle the power to your modem/router. Unplug the power cord to your router first, then your modem (unless you have a combo unit). Wait a minute, then plug the power to your modem, wait for the lights to turn on, then plug the power to your router.
3. Unplug the Ethernet cable at both ends, and plug it back in to confirm a good connection.
4. Check  > System Preferences > Network to see what the status of your Ethernet network is.
macOS Sierra: Connect to the Internet or a network using Ethernet
Try attaching your external hard drive to see if it is recognized in the Finder application. If it is not, try attaching it to a different port on your MacBook, or try attaching it to another Mac computer to isolate the issue to the external drive or the computer.
If you are still having issues with your Ethernet connection and external hard drive after trying these steps, you may need to have an Apple Genius or an Apple Authorized Service Provider take a look at your MacBook Pro. Click on the "Service and Support" section of the resource below to find one near you.

Take care.
