Microsoft word upgrade for High Sierra OS

I have 2011 microsoft office and the word and excel are now exceedingly slow after i upgraded from El Capitan to High Sierra.

I am willing to buy the Office 2016 but wonder if all my old word docs from Office 2011 will be compatible. Do I delete the old Word 2011 apps after I buy the Office 2016.

We never seem to outgrow our Microsoft/Apple incompatibliites. I need Microsoft word because everyone else uses it.

The Office 2011 for Mac, and Office 2016 for Mac applications can co-reside according to Microsoft. The Office 2016 for Mac applications install entirely within the Applications folder. Each application bundle has its own complete set of Microsoft fonts, rather than writing them into System locations as did Office 2011 for Mac. Your Office 2011 for Mac documents have font references in the document. If Microsoft has removed any of these fonts in the Office 2016 for Mac package, you will likely encounter warnings about font substitution events.

Office 2011 for Mac reached end of life in Oct 2017 with the 14.7.7 update being the last. Microsoft never tested, or recommends Office 2011 for Mac with High Sierra, and as a 32-bit application package, its future on macOS is quite limited.

I don't believe any versions of ms word will be incompatible with newer versions of ms word

if they did that it would be shooting themselves in the food, but I don't think they really sell ms word anymore I think they rent it only using the office 365

I'm pretty sure both libra office which is free and apple Pages will be able to open and save both ms word 2011 and 2016 files these days
