Upgrading MS Office 2011 for Mac to 2019; Need to know: compatible old docs, program issues.

On Mojave, when we upgrade to MS Office for Mac 2019:

• can we access prior Word Docs from the MS 2011 (32 bit app version)?
  • if so, cleanly or with daunting issues?
• any significant issues in bringing over other 32-bit programs on Office?

I am preparing to purchase MS 2019 (probably to yearly rent version) and am looking at keeping "legacy" files as workable as possible.
